Results of Climate Change
Climate change is much more than simply a warming trend. An increase in temperatures will also lead to the altering of other weather systems, ultimately impacting our environment in a variety of ways.
It has been predicted that climate change will affect both the intensity and duration of extreme weather systems such as more destructive winds and extreme heat. It is estimated that the temperatures will rise by 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century.
Effects have already been observed in the melting of glaciers and rising of sea levels. Also notable are the decrease in snowpacks and increase in precipitation potentially leading to more flooding. The potential for forest fires is also increased. It is believed that the health of humans will be indirectly effected by climate change through the increase of respiratory and infectious diseases. These effects are extremely likely to continue to be observed in the years to come if we do not drastically alter our lifestyles.
